You may renew at any time during the 180-day (six month) period prior to the expiration of your license. Commercial driver license (CDL) holders are eligible to renew no earlier than 30 days before the expiration date on their license. Renewal reminders are sent to each driver approximately 60 days before expiration date (driver's birthday). You must turn in your previously issued driver license, complete an application, and pass an eye-screening exam. A written and road exam may be given. If you moved, you may be required to show proof of residency. You may also be asked to provide proof of social security number and/or proof of legal presence at renewal.

If you are obtaining a federally compliant driver license, please review the CHECKLIST to be sure you bring all of the required documentation for a one time revalidation. Find out more about the federally compliant driver license and identification cards.
