Registration Renewal Notification - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Registration Renewal eNotification? What am I signing up for?
A. Vehicle owners can now sign up online (or at any DMV branch location) to receive vehicle registration expiration notification via email or telephone. An email address and up to two phone numbers can be provided on the website.

As of January 2009, DMV no longer mails registration renewal notifications via USPS for vehicles requiring inspection. For vehicles that do NOT require inspection, DMV will continue to mail registration renewal notices via USPS if no email address is provided.

Q. How much does this service cost?
A. There is no charge for this service.

Q. Who can sign up for this service?
A. Only registered owners of a vehicle can sign up for this service. You must have the vehicle registration card and the Delaware issued drivers license number of the vehicle owner. If the vehicle owner has a drivers license issued outside the State of Delaware, please contact the nearest DMV branch location to sign up for this service.

Q. I am in the military and/or overseas. Can I sign up?
A. If you have a Delaware issued drivers license and own a vehicle registered in Delaware, you can sign up for this service. If you do not have a drivers license issued by the State of Delaware, you cannot sign up online at this time. Please contact a DMV branch location.

Q. If I sign up for Registration Renewal eNotifcation, how will I be notified when my vehicle registration is expiring?
A. If an email address is provided, you will be notified by email 90, 60, and 30 days prior to the registration expiration date. If a telephone number is provided, you will be contacted by telephone 45 days prior to the registration expiration date. No notification will be provided for vehicles that require inspection if an email address or telephone is not provided.

Q. What information should I have handy in order to sign up?
A. You will need your Delaware issued driver's license and vehicle registration card in order to provide the following information: drivers license number, plate number, and title date printed on the vehicle registration card. You will also need to provide your name and either an email address or at least one phone number.

Q. I have more than one vehicle. Do I need to sign up for each vehicle I own?
A. Yes, notification information is stored for each vehicle registered in Delaware.

Q. My spouse and I are both listed as owners. Do we both need to sign up for this service?
A. No. This service accommodates one email address and up to two phone numbers per vehicle so only one owner should sign up for this service. If an email address is provided, notification will be sent via email. If no email address is provided, the primary telephone number will be called. If there is no answer at the primary telephone number, the secondary telephone number (if provided) will be called.

Q. Can I be notified when my child's or parent's vehicle registration is expiring?
A. To sign up for this service, you must have the driver's license number of a vehicle owner and the vehicle registration card.

Q. How do I know if DMV receives my eNotification?
A. A confirmation email is sent to vehicle owners letting them know the email address has been confirmed. If a confirmation email is not received, please check your SPAM folder and then contact a DMV branch location.

Q. If I do not receive the e-notification and my vehicle registration expires, do I still have to pay a late fee?
A. A fee of , in addition to the registration fee, shall be imposed at the time of renewal of registration if the Delaware registration has expired. DMV provides the e-notification as a courtesy to vehicle owners.
