HB 180 - New Regulation Requiring Back Up Alarms on Commercial Vehicles over 26,001 lbs

House Bill 180 signed by into law on August 30, 2013, requires all commercial vehicles registered in the State of Delaware on or after January 1, 2014, with a gross weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, be equipped with one or more of the following:

  1. An audible reverse warning signal.
  2. A backup camera visible in the cab of the vehicle.
  3. An audible warning device that will alert the driver when the vehicle is approaching an object.

This new law applies to trucks in the International Registration Plan (IRP) and non-IRP trucks. It applies to single and combination vehicles.

There is no requirement to retrofit existing trucks that are registered in Delaware.
